Amazon : new transnational meeting in Leipzig

Accueil > Sectors > Shops and services > Amazon : new transnational meeting in (...)

The thirteenth meeting of the Amazon Workers International network is taking place on 8, 9 and 10 October in Leipzig. Since 2015, Amazon workers have been meeting wherever possible. The initiative was started by warehouse workers from Poland and Germany and has since expanded to include representatives of workers in France, the USA, Spain, Slovakia, Italy and beyond.

These self-organised meetings by core teams allow for the exchange of information, and work on common issues, such as the managerial practice of the production rate target, the conditions of temporary workers within Amazon, the physical risks related to working conditions, the bonus policies prevailing in the company... They also aim to develop common strategies to resist and win new rights.

In the winter of 2020, walkouts and Strike took place in Polish and German warehouses, while a global "Make Amazon pay" campaign was launched during Black Friday, and in the spring of 2021, a major strike movement took place in Italian warehouses, involving both "permanent" workers and subcontractors.

Several of the trade union organisations present in Amazon warehouses are members of our International Labor Network Of Solidarity and Struggle. This international work, while it goes beyond the current contours of the Network (and that’s fine !) is fully in line with our internationalist activity and ambitions.

Workers’ self-organisation is a practice that we defend, and the International Network of Solidarity and Struggle wishes to relay and support this initiative of the Amazon workers.
