Amazon : struggles in the United States, Poland....

Accueil > Union > Amazon : struggles in the United States, (...)

Workers at the Amazon delivery center in Sacramento, California, successfully forced Amazon to reinstate two of their laid-off colleagues.

In Eagan, Minnesota [photo], 60 workers from the Amazon delivery center organized a two-and-a-half hour strike during the night shift session, demanding better pay for night shifts, reduced package weight and the ability to work more than 30 hours per week. They are waiting for a meeting with management to discuss these issues and are ready to organize new mobilizations.

In Poland, the company’s unions, Solidarnosc and Inicjatywa Pracownicza (IP is a member of the International Trade Union Network of Solidarity and Struggles) have launched the heavy legal process for a strike. A referendum must be held among all the company’s workers... including those sites that are still without a union presence. Despite these obstacles to the right to strike, the movement is getting organized : comrades go to all the warehouses, distribute leaflets, stick posters, install banners, organize discussions with workers... Already more than 5,000 people have responded to the referendum !

Faced with the mobilization, management has already had to make some concessions, but most of the demands remain to be won. Amazon employees in Poland are over-exploited, shareholders make a lot of money on their work and their health. The founder of the company, Jeff Bezos, earns in a second what those who work have to wait three months to get paid. The IP comrades have set up a strike fund

The member organizations of the International Labor Network of Solidarity and Struggle support the struggles of Amazon employees around the world and their international coordination efforts to fight even more effectively.
