The Prosecutor General’s Office filed a lawsuit against the termination of the activities of a number of trade union organizations engaged in “destructive activities”.

Prosecutor General Andrey Shved sent an application to the Supreme Court on the termination of the activities of several independent professional associations, the press service of the department reported.

These are the following organizations :
– Belarusian Free Trade Union (SPB),
– Free Metalworkers’ Union (SPM),
– Belarusian Independent Trade Union of Miners, Chemists, Oil Refiners, Power Engineers, Transport Workers, Builders and Other Workers,
– Belarusian trade union of workers of radio and electronic industry (REP),
– Association of Trade Unions “Belarusian Congress of Democratic Trade Unions” (BKDP).

As the Prosecutor General’s Office reports, since 2020, the activities of independent trade unions “acquired a politicized character”, and their leadership and ordinary members were engaged in “destructive activities”, participated in “unauthorized mass events”, and distributed “extremist products”. Criminal cases have been initiated on all facts.

Earlier, there were arrests in independent trade unions. At least 19 cases are known. Their leaders and activists were taken into custody.

Also, by resolution of the local authorities, the activities of an independent association at the Mozyr Oil Refinery were terminated. In addition, the prosecutor’s office suspended the work of the primary organization of the independent trade union at Grodno Azot and asks to recognize it as extremist.
