Bolsonaro government has carried out a series of attacks on education, which will exacerbate the already existing chaos in public education.

After announcing the cut of funds from three federal universities (Federal University Fluminense, Bahia - UFBA and Brasília - UNB), the government decided to go further and cut investments from all sectors of education, from universities to Basic Education.

While Bolsonaro decides to ameliorate the debt of 17 billion reais from the ruralists - who helped him to be elected-, in total, the education cuts announced by the government exceed R $ 7 billion, wich will derail the functioning of various institutions, exacerbating the chaos existing in education.

Faced with this situation, several protests were carried out across the country against Bolsonaro’s attempt to destroy public education. There were important demonstrations in Rio de Janeiro, Bahia, Espírito Santo, Paraná, Mato Grosso, Brasilia, Rio Grande do Norte.

The workers in education will carry out a national strike on May 15, against the attacks of the government to the sector and against the Reform of Social Security, which reaches the category, formed mainly by women.

Our struggle is international
Nara Cladera, from the French labour union Solidaires and International Labour Network of Solidarity and Struggles, was present during the III ENE (National Meeting of Education), held April 12-14, in Brasília, and spoke about the importance of organizing mobilizations in education internationally, because of attacks that have been carried out globally.

In her evaluation, this third edition of the meeting of workers in the sector is even more important in the current Brazilian and international context. According to her, both in Brazil, with a right-wing government recently elected as in other countries, education has been at the service of the market and privatist interests, harming students and precarious workers of the category.

She also emphasizes that her participation in the meeting and the possibility of exchanging experiences and reflections with the fighters in Brazil will strengthen the sector education of Solidaires, whose task is to build the 4th International Meeting of International Labour Network of Solidarity and Struggles, to be held in Paris, France, in the second half of 2020.

Solidaires will also be on the streets this Thursday, May 9, along with thousands of students, teachers and other public servants, on a important day of strikes and demonstrations in defense of public services and against privatizations.

"Our organization enables class struggle on a global scale, since capitalism organizes itself globally, we need to organize ourselves in the same way", she said.
