In Poland, France and elsewhere, trade unionism fights the extreme right !

Accueil > International (Engl) > Europe > In Poland, France and elsewhere, trade (...)

What is happening at the border between Poland and Belarus is appalling. Thousands of migrants - women, men and children - are being held hostage by the governments of these two countries and more broadly by the governments of the European Union.
The exile chosen by these people is never a choice of convenience. It responds to a vital emergency ; the unbearable social inequalities between different areas of the planet, the wars, the extreme misery due to the capitalist exploitation which needs colonialism and liberticidal regimes, are among the reasons.

The Belarusian authorities are playing with the lives of migrants in a despicable way in order to defend their own interests, which are opposed to those of the thousands of people stuck at the border. But the Polish authorities do not care about the human beings stuck on the border. As trade unionists, we defend the right of everyone to choose where he/she wants to live on earth. This is complemented by struggles for equal rights. We also act to fight the misery that affects a large part of the planet.

All this is the opposite of the action of the extreme right. That is why we strongly condemn the collusion between the Polish Solidarnosc trade union and the French National Rally party. The Polish trade union gives a voice in its press to the president of the French political party and supports her in rejecting migrants and supporting the armed actions of the Polish government.

Of course, this is a shame. But it is not a question of making moral judgments. Fascism and racism are not "ideas", they are crimes against humanity, the emergence of which must be fought, everywhere and always.

Our trade union organizations, Ogólnopolski Związek Zawodowy Inicjatywa Pracownicza and Union syndicale Solidaires, denounce the choice made by Solidarnosc, support the actions carried out in defence of all workers regardless of their nationality, call for the strengthening of the defence of the rights of migrant people, emphasize that misery, wars, repression, exploitation in all its forms are the source of the vast majority of migrations. International trade union action is one of the responses to this situation ; this is what our two organizations intend to continue to carry out, in particular through the International Labour Network of Solidarity and Struggles, which will hold its fourth international meeting in April 2022 in Dijon (France).
