Italy : support the strikers !

Accueil > Union > Italy : support the strikers !

The member organisations of the International Labour Network of Solidarity and Struggles hereby advertise, and will do so in their respective countries, the calls for strike launched by several Italian trade unions for tomorrow, 25th March. A general, 24-hour strike, sector-specific strikes, regional strikes, symbolic strikes in the truly crucial sectors : several grass-root trade unions in Italy, including members of the International Labour Network of Solidarity and Struggles, are calling for a strike. Such calls contribute to the resistance of workers against employers and governments that, throughout the world, are jeopardising our health and our lives and are trying to curtail our rights !

Professional activities should be limited to those that are truly crucial for the community. We cannot let any person be put at risk just for the sake of the economy, that is, for the sake of the benefits of the shareholders, who are not taking those same risks.

The workers, the people and the unions are best positioned to defined which activities are truly crucial. They must be reduced to the minimum possible (namely health and food provision). The company owners and their shareholders have accumulated enough benefits throughout the years and can weather the storm even if their companies have to stop for some time.

People working in crucial sectors are the ones that know best what their working conditions should be. It is them, not their bosses, who should organise their work, their working times, the people needed, and so on.

All workers, regardless of their situation (salaried workers, self-employed, unemployed, on fixed-termed contracts, seasonal workers, and so on) must receive 100% of their wages, and a minimum wage should be guaranteed for all, based on each country’s standard of living.

The organisations member of the International Labour Network of Solidarity and Struggles support the Italian workers that will go on strike tomorrow. Resistance arises in every country ! This is a must : the fight against coronavirus is a priority, and we must provide ourselves with the necessary instruments to ensure that our interests prevail over those of the capitalists !
