Metros workers around the world for social justice

Accueil > Sectors > Health > Metros workers around the world for social (...)

The International Labor Network of Solidarity and Struggles supports this communiqué of the World Coordination of Metro Workers (of which several organizations of our Network are members), published on the occasion of the 1st of May.

We, the organized workers in all parts of the world, have been mobilizing every May 1st to put in value the organized struggle, to show the strength of our union organizations that continue to fight for the defense of rights and freedoms. A struggle initiated in 1886 by the Chicago martyrs who then demanded an 8-hour workday.

One hundred and thirty-four years later, this May 1, 2020, for the first time in many years, will not be a day of great mobilizations in the streets, due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Covid19 is the result of the overexploitation of nature carried out by the capitalist system, concerned only with the unbridled accumulation of profits for a few, at the expense of the misery and degradation of the majority and of the planet itself.

During the confinement, we, the comrades of the Metros of the World, have continued to lend our labour force to the functioning of the public service so that the cities continue to beat, so that many workers from other essential branches continue to go to their jobs, especially those who work in health care.

This crisis has shown us something : the working class is the ONLY essential one in our societies and the big capitalists are the real parasites that do not guarantee the life and health of the people.

This May 1st will be a new day of struggle and mobilization in the world, maybe not in the streets, but in our workplaces, from our homes and with new tools, demanding a social justice system that puts an end to the worst pandemic suffered by human beings : CAPITALISM

Another society is possible, without the destruction of man by man, without the destruction of nature. A society that is equal, free, just and with respect for our natural environment.

Either we put an end to capitalism ; or capitalism puts an end to life on the planet.
