SPAIN | Free Pablo Hasél !

Accueil > Internacional > Europa > SPAIN | Free Pablo Hasél !

We, the member organisations of the International Labour Network of Solidarity and Struggles, reject and condemn the vile attempt of the Spanish State to restrict the citizenship’s freedom of expression. We express our support with all the people that are being unjustly persecuted, judged, and impression for exercising this right, which is supposedly enshrined in the Spanish Constitution and in the Declaration of Human Rights.

The last person that has been imprisoned is the rapper Pablo Hasél. He has been accused of insulting the Crown, slandering the institutions, and glorifying terrorism, on the basis of the opinions that he has freely expressed via twitter and in his songs about the monarchy and the dubious behaviour of its members, and on the State and its repressive forces. This has occurred even though he had freely expressed his opinions through different media.

Rather than going into exile, he took refuge at the University of Lleida with the solidarity of hundreds of people. He waited until the repressive forces of the State burst in and kidnapped him while he encouraged the people present to keep the struggle.

The International Labour Network of Solidarity and Struggles condemns repression and the disproportionate use of violence to which the repressive forces of the State have resorted in the demonstrations called in different Spanish cities in support of Pablo Hasél, against his imprisonment, and in defence of freedom of expression. We also condemn the accusations that some politicians and mass media are formulating against the people that are participating in those demonstrations, who are being qualified as terrorist whose only purpose is to break street furniture and attack the repressive forces in order to justify the violence that is being used against them and the violation of their freedom of expression and their right to demonstrate.

As Hasél’s son says, “Repression exists, it is not science fiction. Reality is sad, you will not silence me”. The International Labour Network of Solidarity and Struggles wants to highlight the repression that exists in the Spanish State and the fact that even though there is a progressive government, freedom of expression and the right to demonstrate are still being violated and popular protests are bring criminalize. We reaffirm our stance, we shall never be silenced !

Singing, tweeting, and protesting are not a crime !
