Tunisia : support for the social movement in Tataouine

Accueil > International (Engl) > Africa > Tunisia : support for the social movement in (...)

The Tunisian government is once again locking itself into a repressive logic. In Tataouine, the use of force, the arrests of young people, including that of the spokesman Tarek Haddad, testify to its failure, in the face of the just and legitimate demands of a region that continues to suffer marginalisation, humiliation and misery.

The police operation carried out on the night of Saturday, 20 June 2020 continued all day Sunday. The "forces of order" proceeded, with violence, to dismantle the tents of a sit-in ; the peaceful demonstrators were only demanding the implementation of the agreement aimed at promoting the social situation in this region ; an agreement that the government signed with the UGTT in October 2017.

The trade union organizations that are members of the International Trade Union Network of Solidarity and Struggles support the struggles and social movements in Tataouine as in the rest of Tunisia. We denounce the repression of the Tunisian state and demand the release of all prisoners and the implementation of the 2017 agreements.
